HISTORY

Native of Genoa, Italy, Alberto Bof is a musical luminary breaking the boundaries of what it means to be a composer and pianist in todays evolving music industry. An “enfant prodige” by the age of 8, classical pianist at the core, Bof specializes in film scoring and music production. Collaborations include Tom Sizemore on "Calico Skies", "City of Lies" directed by Brad Furman and featuring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker. Alberto was featured in the multiple award winning blockbuster "A Star Is Born", both as a performer in the film, as well as a collaborator on the soundtrack, including the award winning smash hit "Shallow".

Alberto started studying classical music and solfege at 4 and played his first piano concert at 8 (Chopin Prelude in E min) securing himself the label of “enfant prodige”, and at 10 and 11 went on to achieve 1st and 2nd prize at the Italian National Piano Competition “Cittá di Genova” (in the category of 14 and 15 year old).

At 11 started the Classical Music School Conservatory “Conservatorio Nicoló Paganini” in Genoa, until the age of 18 when he leaves to pursue a Jazz and Contemporary music career in London.

While attending the Classical studies, at 14, a passion sparked for electronic music production, using vintage synthesizers and mixing techniques. At 16 Bof was noticed by a producer from Milan who financed the production of his first two singles, “Supernatural” and “Whirlwind”. This eventually led to his first self titled, Big Beat album “BOF”, released in 1998 on Prophecyent, an LA based record label specializing in soundtrack production. Alberto worked on his album and was mentored by the engineers and editors from the Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers, Underworld and Peace Division, like Tom Evans and Cheeky Paul Morris. With his brother Matteo as the frontman of the band, Alberto went on to tour the big venues of Europe (Oberhausen Music festival 100K people and the Windsurfing indoor at Paris St.Denis Stadium 20K people to name a couple) and premiered the video “Supernatural” on MTV Networks Europe in September 1998.

2002 | Bof joins Jazz band “Napalm Jazz Quartet” and toured the North of Italy and South of France renowned Jazz Festivals and theaters like the internationally acclaimed “Carlo Felice” playing jazz standards, meeting and performing with drummer Bobby Durham (Oscar Peterson’s Trio and Ella Fitzgerald drummer) who mentored him for a couple years. Meanwhile Alberto worked with internationally acclaimed djs “Roby J” and “Paolo Driver” on the release of some thirty club-house records which aired on radio shows on BBC1 Radio played by Gilles Peterson and reached the charts of Satoshi Tomiie. The pinnacle of Alberto’s house career was a release on world renowned DEFECTED Records.

2005-2011 | Bof travels back to London to join the production of the third album of acclaimed house duo “Tuttomatto” (signed on Tummy Touch) meanwhile creating the basis for his next successful run in Paris.

After a rough family situation in Italy, that occupied his life from 2006 to 2008, he embarks on his Paris journey, joining “FREAKS” a publishing and creative collective of five musicians and producers co-published by BECAUSE Editions (house of Daft Punk’s manager Pedro Winter’s Ed-Bangers records and VIRGIN and EMI CEO Emmanuelle DeBurtel).

With FREAKS Alberto produced several new acts and soundtracks, The most notable being:

• “PZK” (a boyband from the north of France) released on Warner France and achieved the Platinum record. The single “Les Filles Adorent” went on to garner 12M youtube views which at the time, 2009, was unheard of. The next singles “Comme ça” and “Chuis Bo” went on to have the same reception.

• “Le Carton” Soundtrack (motion picture, Warner France)

• “Coursier” Soundtrack (motion picture, released on Luc Besson’s Europacorp. production)

• “Sul Mare” Soundtrack (motion picture, Warner France)

• “Fatal” Soundtrack (motion picture, Warner France/Universal)

• “Ce Matin Va Être Une Pure Soirée” single (Warner France/Universal, featuring French acclaimed comedian Michael Youn, the single garnered 58M youtube views)

During this time, Alberto never lost sight of his interest for skateboarding which led him to score some twenty commercials for respected skateboarding brands such as GIRL, CHOCOLATE and LAKAI (owned by now Oscar winner Spike Jonze). In 2011 Alberto left Paris for Los Angeles where he now resides.

2012 - 2014 | Bof founded MKRS Publishing with business partner and video producer Martino Properzi in Venice Beach California. Alberto started producing on his own, sometimes using the Electronic alias of ZOOBOF, writing music for commercials and video content (a growing sector at that time) for NIKE, RED BULL, GIRL SKATEBOARDS, also participating to the release of skateboarding projects produced or directed by the Spike Jonze himself, such as “Pretty Sweet”, “Wet Dream”, “Croisiére avec GIRL” (a 360 degrees art installation at the Gaîté Lyrique museum in Paris) to name a few.

Alberto’s work then reached a broader spectrum of clients like Hoorsenbuhs, Diesel, Hogan, Smith, ESPN, Shift MX, GIANT, Target, General Motors, Chevy, 007 Spectre & Heineken, Calvin Klein, Nick Fouquet, Kassia Meador, HBO, VICE Media, Moda Operandi, Adidas, Bvlgari and many more.

A collaboration with Nick Fouquet and Bruno Miotto brings the trio to the spotlight and a “Staff Pick” Vimeo badge on “We Are All Mad Here” project.

2015 | Release of "B.O.F", 12" record on Bianca Chandôn, with dj/artists Alex Olson (a pro skateboarder for NIKE) and Paul T. (international dj) under the name "& Co". The single topped the world’s 1st position on the chart of worldwide vinyl distributor junorecords.com in Nov. 2015.

At the same time he also composed the soundtrack for three feature films :

• “Blanka" (released in Japan and then internationally, working together with fellow composer Aska Matsumiya) recipient of two prizes at the world renowned Venice Film Festival.

• “Calico Skies" featuring Tom Sizemore and winner of the Mannheim Heidelberg Film Festival Cinema Owners Award.

• "All at Once” which released in select theaters in LA and on cable and streaming services. Also appears in DECCA/Universal double album release "Re:Works", featuring "reworks" of classical compositions alongside the biggest names in the actual dance/electronic music scene.

2016 | Alberto’s rework of Rachmaninov “Vespers Bogoroditse Devo” has 1.5M streams on Spotify alone and is featured in many respected dance playlists.

Alberto also teamed up with Music legend Quincy Jones to produce the single “Black Dress” for the Middle Eastern Market “Xriss Jor” who is currently competing in “The Voice” France.

At the same time Alberto plays Ravel’s “Jeux D’eau” for Vimeo’s Staff Pick surf video directed by Jon Frank and featuring women’s surf world champion Stephanie Gilmore. The video won “Best Short” SURFER Award.

2017 | Bof teams up with international photographer Giovanni Reda to score his VICE News short documentary “Brian Anderson on coming out as a gay professional skateboarder” which went on to win the internet 2017 “People’s Voice” Webby Award.

Alberto also joined “Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real” (Neil Young’s supporting band) and started touring and recording piano and keys on Lukas’s self titled album “Lukas Nelson”. Alberto also appears as a co-writer on the song “Find Yourself” featuring Lady Gaga. Noticed and picked by Bradley Cooper, the band will go on and participate to the world acclaimed “A Star Is Born” feature. Performing on the soundtrack and also as actor in the motion picture, Alberto also gained a songwriter’s credit in “Black Eyes” together with Bradley Cooper and Lukas Nelson. Among all the other songs featured in the soundtrack, Alberto also plays the piano in the Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy and Bafta winning song “SHALLOW”.

2017-2018 | Alberto also started a collaboration with Brad Furman (director of “The Lincoln Lawyer”, “The Infiltrator” among others) to finish the score/soundtrack of “City of Lies” featuring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker. With the blessing of Notorious B.I.G. manager Wayne Barrow, Volletta Wallace and Bad Boy Records, Alberto reworked some of the best known Biggie’s classics using Biggie’s original recordings, with the help of Brad Furman, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry.

March 2019 | Alberto is the face of the QuickBooks campaign “Credit where credit’s due” appearing on interviews in 63 different cable morning news shows.

May 2019 | official launch date of 7 time world surf champion Stephanie Gilmore's documentary "The Electric Acid Surf Board Test" in collaboration with Corona and STAB Surf Magazine.

July 2019 | Alberto releases his new album “The California Chronicles First Take”

Sep 2019 | “Unposted” the Chiara Ferragni Documentary, debuts at the Venice Film Festival. Alberto composes the original soundtrack.

Dec 2019 | “Stab in the Dark : All Stars” is released. A surf video featuring three world class surfers, Jordy Smith, Mick Fanning and Dane Reynolds. Alberto composes half of the soundtrack.

Dec 2019 | “Original Classics” is released. An album featuring Alberto’s original classical compositions recorded at Village Studios, Los Angeles, California.

Jan 2020 | “Unposted Soundtrack” passes the 1M streams milestone on Spotify

Feb 2020 | Alberto plays with Aerosmith on stage at the Park Theatre, MGM Grand in Vegas.

May 2020 | “The California Chronicles 2” is released. Following the first “California Chronicles” Album, Alberto releases another blues, Wurlitzer solo EP.

July 2020 | “MASON” is released. Alberto composes “An Intro” for Mason Silva’s NIKE SB skateboarding part.

July 2020 | “Being MISSONI” short film soundtrack is released.

November 2020 | “Orgatroid” collaboration is released.

December 2020 | “Staycation” , a Thrasher Magazine collaboration is released.

January 2021 | Alberto plays Puccini’s “Nessundorma” suspended at 9000ft (2800mt) height in the Lagazuoi cable car for the countdown to the Alpine World Ski Championships featuring international tenor Fabio Sartori.

February 2021 | “Andy Irons and the Radicals” is released on STAB Premium, Alberto composes the original soundtrack.

March 2021 | “Keep on Moving’ On” remix by Alberto is released by Rouge Mary (former singer of Hercules and Love Affair).

March 2021 | “Genesis” , the first Jazz record by Alberto featuring Rafael Tapia III on saxophone is released.

March 2021 | “City of Lies” (directed by Brad Furman, with Forest Whitaker and Johnny Depp) releases March 19th in theaters in the United States, Alberto is author of half the soundtrack featuring original songs with Notorious B.I.G. vocals and performance by Joe Perry and Johnny Depp.
